Giving gratitude. It is sometimes done when you have received something you wish for, forgotten when things are going well, and rejected during times of struggle, or sorrow.
Life throws us curve balls, and we can at times find ourselves in a well. The depth may vary, and within that depth, the play of light available to guide us out is affected.
We must remember that we are energy, life, and a source of light within this world. We have the strength to find our own way.
It is at these times, that you have to struggle to reclaim your strength, to not give up, or give in. When you feel you are at a low point, find strength through gratitude. Dig as deep as the well you are in, for anything in your life which still brings you joy, peace, laughter, and sustain you.
My life has taken me into a well recently, and the longer it is taking me to emerge from this space, I can at times find that my spirit is waning, my confidence weakening, and my resolve dissolving…. But by giving thanks for what still remains, I can replenish all of this.
In building a despacho I am able to find myself again. With each layer added to the despacho I give gratitude for what remains, and for what I have within me, my strengths which can help me solve the riddle of the well. As the despacho grows, so does the strength of my spirit, confidence and resolve.
Each aspect in my life that I am grateful for becomes a foothold out of that well. Each step gets me closer to the top, allowing the light to reveal more solutions… allowing me to see that while my own inner strength got me started, there were in fact hands waiting for me, to help me a little further along the way.
It does take time. My situation is 5 months and going strong, but I am stronger. And so are you. As long as we remember that when we feel we have nothing to be grateful for, that is the most important time to show gratitude. It reminds us of our strength, and of the support of Spirit.
I wrote this poem originally as my meal time “Grace”. It was the inspiration for this post, because it reminded me, at a time when I was only looking down within the well, that I still had my life, air to breath, the warmth of a blanket at night under the security of a roof, and while my cupboards are leaner these days, I still have the basics to sustain me. Not everyone can say this… so I am grateful. Every day.
For those who do not follow a Shamanic based path, a despacho can be as simple as a bowl filled each day with strips of paper you have written something you are reminded to be grateful for. As it grows, so will your strength. Be grateful, and reclaim who you are.
