Shirodhara : 3rd eye awakens

The word shirodhara breaks down into two ideas: “shiro,” meaning head, and “dhara,” which means flow. Together they form a concept that aims to bring physical and emotional balance by rejuvenating the spirit and preserving health.  It is an excellent treat to either start, end (or both!) a seasonal detox program.

Shirodhara works primarily on the mental sheath or “manomaya kosha” as it is referred to in Ayurveda. It is here that the mind holds on to past impressions that create imbalanced desires and habitual patterns of behaviour. These impressions are held captive in the limbic system of the emotional cortex of the brain.

The Process:

A controlled flow of warm dosha specific oil, teas or milks are gently poured over the “Ajana” or Third Eye Chakra in a steady, slow stream which moves down and over the “Suhasrara” or Crown Chakra.
